John Joseph Feild was born on April 1, 1978 in Boulder, CO. He was born to an English writer and former musician, Reshad Feild. Feild and his folks moved to London when he was an infant. His parents later separated and both remarried. His stepfather is Jon Williams, the proofreader of BBC World News. Feild went to the Fine Arts College and the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

Feild has been in a relationship with actress Neve Campbell since 2011. In March 2012, they confirmed that they were expecting their first kid together, and Campbell brought forth their child in August. Campbell declared she and Feild had adopted a child named Raynor in January 2018. Neve couldn't avoid sharing the uplifting news. JJ played the role of Simon Doyle in the TV series Death on the Nile. He also played Paul Osbourne in Marple "The Pale Horse". He appeared in Northanger Abbey as Henry Tilney and as Frederick Garland in the BBC adaptations of Philip Pullman's The Ruby in the Smoke and The Shadow in the North. His film roles include playing the more youthful form of Michael Caine's character in Last Orders and assuming the role of Heinz in Telstar.

In 2008, he made his West End debut in Ring Round the Moon. In 2011, Feild co-featured in Captain America: The First Avenger as James Montgomery Falsworth.
