Jonathan David Bellion was born on December 26, 1990 in Long Island, NY. He is the child of Judy Ann and William J. Bellion. He was brought up in his parent's home with his sisters and brothers. He went to Five Towns College and Sachem High School North.

Jon Bellion at 19 years old chose to drop out of school and focus his intention on his writing career. He worked under songwriter and Warner Bros A&R official Kara DioGuardi for a year. He signed a deal through her own distributing organization. Through this experience, he figured out how to compose melodies for various artists in genres like rock and hip hop.

Bellion's first mixtape, Scattered Thoughts Vol. 1 was released in mid 2011 by means of his Facebook page and came to more than 11,000 downloads. Bellion makes and produces the full scale of his own music.

He is known for his single, All Time Low and has released four mixtapes and two studio collections. The Human Condition was released in June 2016 and it appeared at number five on the US Billboard 200. He released his subsequent collection Glory Sound Prep in November 2018. He is at present signed to Visionary Music Group and Capitol Records and released a front of Drake's "The Motto" on VMG's YouTube page. He provided vocals for the 2015 EDM tune Beautiful Now by Zedd. Jon Bellion released his fourth free project, titled The Definition, under Visionary Music Group on September 23, 2014. Bellion featured his first national tour called The Beautiful Mind Tour in October 2014. Bellion released a few singles in mid 2015, including "Woodstock (Psychedelic Fiction)", "Untouched Low", and "Woke the Fuck Up" through Capitol Records. On March 31, 2015, Bellion declared his subsequent national tour, The Definition Tour. The tour started on May 26 and finished up on July 2.

He wrote the theme of the Grammy Award-winning melody The Monster by Eminem including Rihanna. This melody likewise won a Grammy Award in the 2015 Grammy Awards for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. Bellion additionally co-wrote and produced the tune "Trumpets" by Jason Derulo in 2012, which was not released until 2013 in the UK and 2014 in the US. He has won the MTV Europe Music Awards and Radio Disney Music Awards.

In December 2019, it was announced that Bellion made the Forbes 30 Under 30 – Music list.
