Jimmy Smits is known as a Puerto Rican actor. He is most famous for his roles on 'L.A. Law' and 'NYPD Blue.'

Background and Age

Jimmy Smits was born on July 9, 1955, in Brooklyn, New York. Smits was the oldest of three children born to Emelina and Cornelis Smits. His mom was Puerto Rican and his father was Dutch. A second generation American of mixed heritage, Smits was brought up in Brooklyn. He went to Thomas Jefferson High School, where he was both a competitor and actor of impressive ability. He proceeded to study at Brooklyn College, and earned his MFA in theater from Cornell University in 1982.

In the mid 1980s, Smits toured the US with off-Broadway productions. After extensive stage achievement, he was cast in a few motion picture and TV projects and caught a big break with the two-hour pilot for Miami Vice (1984), in which he was featured as Don Johnson's doomed partner.

Married, Wife and Kids

In 1981, Smits married his high school sweetheart, Barbara. The couple had two children together before they separated in 1987. He now lives with long-term buddy and fellow actress Wanda De Jesus.

Career and Net Worth

In 1986, Smits handled his first big screen role as a street drug dealer in Running Scared. Soon thereafter, he discovered his specialty in TV when he was signed to play lawyer Victor Sifuentes on the week by week series L.A. Law. During his five seasons on the show, the court drama was a business achievement. Smits earned an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 1990, en route developing his picture as a Hispanic heartthrob with his character.

The producers of the police drama NYPD Blue offered Smits the series' lead role after David Caruso's departure. Smits took the part, which rejoined him with L.A. Law producer Steven Bochco. In the fall of 1994, he appeared on NYPD Blue as criminologist Bobby Simone, winning the hearts of a distrustful group of spectators.

Fans will at long last get a film translation of the Broadway hit, In The Heights, including Hamilton's Anthony Ramos in June 2019. Directed by Jon M. Chu from Crazy Rich Asians and from a screenplay by Quiara Alegría Hudes who wrote the book for In the Heights on Broadway, the film adaptation dropped its first full-length trailer in December 2019. The trailer promises excessive musical numbers and mind blowing production. Set in New York's Washington Heights neighborhood, In the Heights portrays to the tale of a workers' youth played by Miranda on Broadway and Ramos in the film. In the film, Jimmy stars as Kevin Rosario.
