Early Life
David Onley was born on April 28, 1952 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was born to a family of modest means, and his father was a factory worker. Growing up, David was an avid reader and had a passion for learning. He attended the University of Toronto, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Economics.
Career
After graduating from university, David began his career in the media industry. He worked as a reporter and anchor for several television stations in the Toronto area, including Citytv and CTV. He also wrote for the Toronto Star and hosted a radio show on CFRB.
In 1988, David was appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, a position he held until 2014. During his tenure, he was a strong advocate for accessibility and disability rights. He was also a vocal supporter of the arts and culture, and was instrumental in the creation of the Lieutenant Governor's Awards for the Arts.
In addition to his work as Lieutenant Governor, David has served on numerous boards and committees, including the Canadian Council of the Blind, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, and the Canadian Hearing Society. He has also been a member of the Order of Canada since 2009.
