After The Walt Disney Company obtained ownership of Lucasfilm in 2012, plans for a spin-off trilogy to the Star Wars films were reported. On April 29, 2014, Disney declared a cast rundown for Star Wars Episode VII, set a very long time after Episode VI. The affirmed cast included the actors who depicted Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Luke Skywalker, alongside Chewbacca, C-3PO, and R2-D2, yet Calrissian's character was discarded. Fans made their disappointment known on social media platforms immediately.
In December 2019, it was anticipated that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the last passage of Walt Disney Co.'s latest Star Wars trilogy is predicted to make about $200 in its opening days. That isn't as much as the subsequent segment, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," which made $220 million during 2017, and further behind the 2015 first film, "The Force Awakens," which opened to a then-record $248 million when it was released in 2015.
