Asante Duah Ma'at was born on October 20, 2001 in Maryland. His father "Ayize Blackk" and mother "Aiyana Ma'at Blackk" are both clinical social specialists and couples advisors. He is the oldest of his four kin. Asante experienced childhood in a profoundly grounded and socially cognizant family. He started acting at 6 years old and cast as Mowgli in The Jungle Book school play in 2008. In high school, the actor joined the Theater Department and participated in a few theaters and acting classes. During his first year, he was cast as Bud in "Father Knows Best" and Charlie in "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". Asante graduated from North Point High School in 2019.

In When They See us, Blackk had initially tried out for the role of depicting Korey Wise, one of the absolved members of the Central Park Five. He was, nonetheless, rather, cast as the 14-year-old Kevin Richardson. In season 4 of the series This Is Us, he depicted Malik. The series debuted on NBC on September 20, 2016. Asante is heavily featured in the Netflix miniseries "When They See Us", which is about the teenagers who were marked the "Central Park Five". The adolescents were wrongly sentenced for the assault of a white female jogger in the 1989 Central Park case. The five teenagers who are currently developed men are Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana Jr., and Korey Wise.

In the miniseries, Asante was praised depicting Kevin Richardson. Kevin was 14 years of age when he was captured. He served seven years in jail. Talking about him being cast as Kevin Richardson, Asante said it was a test attempting to wake up from the feelings on set. The real story weighed heavily on the cast.
