Winona Ryder is known as an American film and TV actress. She is currently most famous for her role on the Netflix Sci-Fi show, Stranger Things.

Background

Winona Laura Horowitz was born on October 29, 1971, in Winona, Minnesota. While in her initial young years, Ryder was taken on the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco which sparked her interest in acting. It was a great move by her parents as she would become a huge star.

Partners

During her over 30 years as a performer, Ryder has been connected to a few special actors and musicians, including Johnny Depp, Matt Damon and Dave Pirner from the band Soul Asylum. She and Depp were engaged for a period in the 1990s, and he had her name inked on his arm. Ryder has since been associated with a long term romance with style designer Scott Mackinlay Hahn.

In August 2018, Ryder made headlines when she suggested to Entertainment Weekly that she might be accidentally married to an actor named Reeves. She said that Dracula director Francis Ford Coppola utilized a genuine Romanian minister for their wedding scene in the 1992 movie, with the two actors experiencing a whole wedding service before saying their vows.

Acting Career and Net Worth

Ryder made her film debut in the drama Lucas (1986). She was the offbeat, gothic Lydia in 1988's gothic satire Beetlejuice, directed by Tim Burton. Ryder then appeared as a young lady who falls for the bizarre title character in Edward Scissorhands (1990), with then-beau Johnny Depp. In the drama satire Heathers (1989), she played a high school young lady combating for her place in the high school hierarchy.

Ryder graduated to increasingly grown-up roles with Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992). Her work on The Age of Innocence (1993) earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. After two years, she got another nomination from the institute with a Best Actress nomination for her role as Jo in Little Women (1995). While she gave a solid performance in Girl, Interrupted (1999) as a young lady in a psychological organization, Ryder made a few forgettable movies around this time, including the failure Autumn in New York (2000).

In 2016 Ryder started featuring in Netflix's Stranger Things, a science fiction drama set in Indiana in the mid-1980s. She got a Golden Globe nomination for her depiction of Joyce Byers, a single parent whose child bafflingly disappears. The success of the show prompted a third season, which appeared on July 4, 2019.
