Thomas Ravenel was born on August 11, 1962 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was the youngest of six children. In 1981, Ravenel entered the Corps of Cadets at The Citadel, acquiring a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1985. After graduation, he sold land for a long time as a real estate agent. In 1992, Ravenel established Ravenel Development Corporation, a business land organization, and moved it the following year to Atlanta where he started to focus on retail projects including unattached, single-occupant stores and strip-shopping center improvements. He came back to Charleston in 1995 to take on some unfinished business.

In 2006, Ravenel was chosen to the office of State Treasurer for the state of South Carolina. As State Treasurer, he was administrator of The State Board of Financial Institutions for the State of South Carolina, a member of The Budget and Control Board for the State of South Carolina, a member of The State of South Carolina Retirement System, which puts roughly $30 billion in assets to support retired state workers.

Personal Life

Relationships

The sixth season of Southern Charm aired without Thomas Ravenel. As indicated by multiple reports, Thomas was accused of rape in May 2018. Months after the fact, Thomas reported that he was leaving Southern Charm after season 5 voluntarily.

At that point in September 2018, he was arrested and accused of threatening behavior in the second degree, as indicated by Charleston County correctional facility records. It was around the same time that Bravo announced that the disfavored politician would not be appearing on the series any longer. His on-and-off sweetheart, Ashley Jacobs, is ready to return sooner or later during the season, however it's not clear to what extent her role will be considering Ravenel’s uncertain legal status.

Ravenel is the father of girl, Kensington Calhoun Ravenel and a boy, St. Julien Rembert Ravenel. In his free time, Ravenel appreciates investing energy with his children, polo, sailing and voyaging.
