He at first centered around sports when he was in high school, however injury damage that incidentally kept him from playing basketball drove him toward theater, and an instructor encouraged him to try out for the play in which he made his Broadway debut, Take a Giant Step (1953). His performance was generally welcomed, and he won the Donaldson Award for best newcomer of the year. In the wake of moving on from high school in 1954, he went to New York University on a basketball and drama scholarship. He kept on taking acting employments, appearing on Broadway in The Desk Set (1955–56) and in TV shows in guest roles. After school, he was drafted by the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association yet decided to completely devote himself to acting as a career.

After the season finale of Watchmen was broadcast in December 2019, there were requests concerning whether Watchmen would return for season 2. HBO has not revived the series for another season yet that appears to be less about the performance of the show since it was a strong ratings and appraisals achievement. The solicitations are about whether there is material for a season 2. Louis plays Will Reeves on the show.
