Kyle Kuzma was chosen in the 2017 NBA draft by the Brooklyn Nets. In a draft-day exchange, he was dealt alongside Brook Lopez to the Los Angeles Lakers in return for D'Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov. Preceding the draft, Kuzma had been projected to go in the second round or even undrafted.

On July 3, 2017, he signed his rookie scale contract with the Lakers.
