Jo Koy is the stage name of Joseph Glenn Herbert. Joseph Glenn Herbert was born on June 2, 1971, in Tacoma, Washington. He experienced childhood in a Filipino-American family unit. When he was just ten years old, his father deserted the family, leaving his mom, Josie Harrison, to raise him and his siblings without anyone else. In his future comedy career, Jo would consistently pay tribute to his Filipino mother and compliment his Filipino upbringing. He has two sisters whose names are Rowena Hebert and Gemma Herbert. His brother, Robert Hebert, was diagnosed with schizophrenia.

The comedy shows further expanded his fan base and reach all through the nation.

Koy's comedy career commenced in 1994 at a comedy club in Las Vegas, after which he moved from open mic night to a regular spot on the show Catch a Rising Star at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino. When he showed up on BET's ComicView, he started to rise in his comedy career.
