Harrison Ford is known as one of Hollywood's most popular and decorated leading men. He is most famous for having an acting career that has spanned more than 50 years and included legendary roles such as Indiana Jones and Han Solo.


Harrison Ford was born on July 13, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. He experienced childhood in Des Plaines, a suburb of Chicago, as the child of a promoting official and a homemaker. As a youngster, Ford was focused by attacked by bullies. He went to Maine Township High School where he was engaged with model train clubs and other nerdy activities that made him an easy target.

Marriage, Wife and Kids

Harrison Ford was married to his school sweetheart Mary Marquardt from 1964 to 1979. The couple has two children together. He married screenwriter Melissa Mathison in 1983. They met during the creation of 1979's Apocalypse Now. They had two children together before isolating in 2001 and finishing their separation in 2004. Ford has been romantically involved with actress Calista Flockhart since 2002. The couple married in 2010.

Appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in June 2019, the 76-year-old Ford revealed that he had taken a stab at skydiving out of the blue, with his 18-year-old child Liam. For a long time, he had refused to do the daredevil activity.

Baffled with his absence of achievement as an actor, Ford turned into a craftsman to enhance his salary. George Lucas gave him his first significant film role in his 1973 drama American Graffiti however his career failed to advance much. He worked for Francis Ford Coppola as both a craftsman and an actor with little roles in The Conversation (1974) and Apocalypse Now (1979).

In 1977, Ford worked together with Lucas again for his big role as Han Solo in Star Wars. His depiction of the reckless yet amiable maverick in this sci-fi great helped raise his profile in Hollywood. The film's two spin-offs, The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983), helped make him a star.

Ford upgraded his notoriety for being a dramatic actor with a few noteworthy roles in the mid-1980s. He got an Academy Award nomination for his work in 1985's Witness, a crime drama co-featuring Kelly McGillis and directed by Peter Weir. The next year, Ford reteamed with Weir to play a strange designer in The Mosquito Coast, with River Phoenix and Helen Mirren. In 1988 he demonstrated his lighter side in the well known rom-com Working Girl, with Melanie Griffith and Sigourney Weaver.
