Background and Age

Emily Swallow was born on December 18, 1979 in Washington, D.C. She experienced childhood in Sterling, VA and Jacksonville, FL. Trying to pursue a career as a Foreign Service Officer, she earned a BA degree in Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Virginia. A tryout for NYU's Graduate Acting Program made her change course, and she moved to New York to progress in the direction of her MFA degree.

While at Stanton College Preparatory School she started acting in different college, amateur, and professional theater productions. Swallow started her career on Broadway theater, where she acted in different productions, including High Fidelity, King Lear, The Taming of the Shrew, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at the Guthrie Theater, Much Ado About Nothing for Shakespeare in the Park, and the world-debut of Off-Broadway shows Romantic Poetry and Measure for Pleasure. In 2013 she worked together with Mark Rylance and writer Louis Jenkins on the world debut of Nice Fish at the Guthrie Theater. In 2016 she was cast in the Center Theater Group's production of Ayad Akhtar's Disgraced.

Emily had a big splash when she was featured in world debuts of Donald Margulies' play The Country House at LA's Geffen Playhouse and in John Patrick Shanley's musical Romantic Poetry at Manhattan Theater Club. She hops from Shakespeare to musicals to contemporary comedy in shows on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and in LA and Minneapolis. She won the Falstaff Award for Best Female Performer in 2010 for her performance as Kate in The Taming of the Shrew.

Swallow's first TV role was in Guiding Light, later taking parts in Southland, "Ringer," The Good Wife, NCIS, Flight of the Conchords, and Medium. She had a featuring role in The Mentalist as FBI specialist Kim Fischer. In 2015 she was cast in the eleventh season of Supernatural as the new character Amara, "the Darkness". In 2013, Swallow played her first role in quite a horror movie directed by Shana Betz released in 2014.

In December 2019, The Mandalorian was released on Disney + to rave reviews and ratings. Emily stars on the show as Armorer.
