Ed Kranepool

Early Life

Ed Kranepool was born on November 8, 1944 in the Bronx, New York. He was raised in the Bronx and attended James Monroe High School, where he was a standout baseball player. He was signed by the New York Mets in 1962 at the age of 17 and made his major league debut in 1964.

Career

Kranepool was a member of the Mets for 18 seasons, from 1964 to 1979. He was a part of the 1969 World Series championship team and was the longest-tenured Met at the time of his retirement. He was a versatile player, playing first base, third base, and the outfield. He was also a switch-hitter, batting from both sides of the plate.

Kranepool was a consistent hitter throughout his career, batting .261 with 881 hits, including 144 doubles, 28 triples, and 88 home runs. He was also a reliable fielder, committing only 81 errors in his career. He was a fan favorite and was known for his hustle and determination.

Later Life

Kranepool retired from baseball in 1979 and went on to become a successful businessman. He owned a restaurant in Manhattan and was a partner in a real estate development firm. He also served as a Mets ambassador and was inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame in 1990.

Kranepool is still active in the Mets organization and is a frequent guest at Mets games. He is also a member of the New York Baseball Writers Association and is a regular guest on sports talk radio. He is a beloved figure in the Mets organization and is a living reminder of the team's glory days.
