College Career
Mitchell chose to attend the University of Louisville, where he played for the Cardinals from 2015 to 2017. Mitchell was selected 13th overall in the 2017 NBA draft by the Denver Nuggets, but was later traded to the Utah Jazz. In his rookie season, he averaged 20.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, earning him the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. He was also named to the All-Rookie First Team.
In his second season, Mitchell continued to improve, averaging 23.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. He was named to the All-Star team for the first time in his career and was also named to the All-NBA Third Team.
In the 2019-20 season, Mitchell averaged 24.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. He was again named to the All-Star team and was also named to the All-NBA Second Team.
