Constance Wu was born as Constance Tianming Wu on March 22, 1982 in Richmond, Virginia. Wu's folks moved to the states from Taiwan, and her father worked at the Virginia Commonwealth University as a science teacher, while her mom worked on her career as a PC software engineer.

Wu was the third of four young ladies in her family, and at a young age, she got associated with the neighborhood theater programs. In 2005 Wu graduated with an acting degree from the State University of New York.

Career

Wu's acting career started in New York, taking on an assortment of supporting roles both in film and TV. She appeared in independent films like Stephanie Daley (2006), The Architect (2006) and Year of the Fish (2007). On the small screen, she played supporting characters in Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Covert Affairs and for a short time in 2007, played Laudine Lee on ABC's One Life to Live.

It wasn't until 2014 that Wu had a noteworthy leap forward in her career, being given a role as a Chinese foreigner mother Jessica Huang on ABC's family sitcom Fresh Off the Boat, a tale about a Taiwanese family moving from Washington D.C. to their new life in Orlando, Florida. The TV show is based on the memoir of celebrity Asian chef, Eddie Huang.

After the show was renewed for another year in 2019, Wu was criticized by the public for her social rants about having to act in another season of the show instead of being able to pursue other objects.

Wu’s highest profile relationship was when she dated Ben Hethcoat, a director and producer. She had met Ben in 2011 during a Christmas Party of a friend named Ryan Spindell. Many people assumed that they would get married one day because of their strong love. Despite the fact that the couple looked great together, their relationship couldn't last. After being in love for nearly four years, their loved stopped.

Their last appearance together was back in January 2016 during the 21st Annual Critics Choice Awards held at Baker Hanger Airport in Los Angeles. After the split, Constance, the strong women's activist and has been carrying on with her life as a single independent woman.
