Alfre Woodard is known as an American actress, producer, and political activist. She is most famous for her role in the Netflix show, Luke Cage.

Childhood and Education

Alfre Woodard was born on November 8, 1952 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Alfre Woodard was born to Constance, a homemaker, and Marion H. Woodard, an entrepreneur and interior designer. She was raised by her folks alongside two older siblings.

From the early periods of her life, Alfre Woodard was a flexible actress with sheer enthusiasm for both acting and dancing. Along these lines, during her days at Bishop Kelley High School, Tulsa, Oklahoma, she was appointed as a team cheerleader which was trailed by her studying Drama at Boston University. She graduated from Boston University and set up a solid foundation for her to be a fruitful actress in her future.

Alfre Woodard is currently married to Roderick M. Spencer. She married her beau Roderick on October 21, 1983, and has two children from their romantic relationship. Their children's names are Mavis Spencer and Duncan Spencer. They have been married for a long time and have not had any issues even with Alfre's life in Hollywood.

Acting Career and Awards

Alfre Woodard started her career as an actress in a stage play called 'For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf' which was trailed by her debut presentation film 'Remember My Name' which was released in 1978.

After her first Primetime Emmy Award for her performance in the NBC drama series 'Hill Street Blue', she again won Primetime Emmy Award for her role of a lady biting the dust from Leukemia in the television series 'L.A. Law.'

Before starring in the ABC comedy drama series 'Desperate Housewives' depicting the role of Betty Applewhite, she played a role in various movies and television series including 'Crooklyn', 'How to Make an American Quilt', 'Star Trek: First Contact', and many more. She entered the superhero realm when she was hired to star in Netflix's Luke Cage. The title character was a super hero African American and was praised for its soundtrack of hip hop music and the diverse cast of many minority characters.

In July 2019, the live action version of Disney's Lion King was released. Alfre Woodard was tasked to voice the character of Sarabi, one of the lionesses in the film. Apart from her acting career, she is additionally the originator of 'Artists for a New South Africa' and an organizer member of AMPAS.
