Early Life
Tony Barrand was born in London, England in 1945. He grew up in a musical family, with his father being a professional musician and his mother a singer. From a young age, Tony was exposed to a variety of musical styles, including folk, jazz, and classical. He began playing the guitar at the age of 12 and soon developed a passion for folk music.
Career
In the early 1960s, Tony began performing in folk clubs around London. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented singer and storyteller, and soon began touring the UK and Europe. In 1965, he joined the folk group The Young Tradition, which was one of the most influential groups of the English folk revival. The group released several albums and toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe.
In the 1970s, Tony began performing solo and released his first solo album, “The Englishman’s Farewell”, in 1975. He continued to tour and record throughout the decade, and in 1979 he released his second solo album, “The Englishman’s Farewell II”.
In the 1980s, Tony continued to tour and record, and in 1984 he released his third solo album, “The Englishman’s Farewell III”. He also began performing with the folk group Steeleye Span, and in 1988 he released his fourth solo album, “The Englishman’s Farewell IV”.
In the 1990s, Tony continued to tour and record, and in 1995 he released his fifth solo album, “The Englishman’s Farewell V”. He also began performing with the folk group The New Victory Band, and in 1998 he released his sixth solo album, “The Englishman’s Farewell VI”.
Legacy
Tony Barrand is considered one of the most influential figures in the English folk revival. He has released numerous albums and toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe.
