Early Life

Tom Stoppard was born Tomáš Straussler on July 3, 1937 in Zlín, Czechoslovakia. When Tom was three, his family moved to Singapore, where his father worked as a doctor in the British Army. In 1942, the family was forced to flee Singapore when the Japanese invaded.
