Steven John Carell was born on August 16, 1962, in Concord, Massachusetts. Carell was the most youthful of Edwin and Harriet Carell's four children. Steve's father, whose family follows its foundations back to Italy, changed his last name from Caroselli before Steve's introduction to the world.

Steve Carell met his better half, Nancy Walls, when she was an understudy in an improvisational class he taught. The two got married on August 5, 1995. The couple currently has two children together. Their first kid, Elisabeth Anne, was born in May 2001 while their son, John, was born in June 2004.
