Shepard Smith is an American journalist and television news anchor. He is best known for his work as the former chief anchor and managing editor of Fox News Channel's (FNC) breaking news division. Smith was with Fox News from its inception in 1996 until his departure in 2019.
Early Life
Shepard Smith was born on January 14, 1964 in Holly Springs, Mississippi. He attended Marshall Academy, a private school in Holly Springs, and later attended the University of Mississippi, where he majored in journalism. After graduating in 1986, Smith began his career as a reporter for WJHG-TV in Panama City Beach, Florida.
Career
In 1995, Smith joined Fox News Channel as one of its original anchors. He was the first anchor of Fox Report, a nightly newscast that focused on breaking news. Smith also hosted Fox News' Studio B, a daily news program, and The Fox Report with Shepard Smith, a weekly news program.
In 2013, Smith was promoted to managing editor of Fox News' breaking news division. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing the network's coverage of major news events, such as the Boston Marathon bombing and the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
In 2019, Smith announced his departure from Fox News after 23 years with the network. He later joined CNBC as the network's chief general news anchor and managing editor of its breaking news division.
