Sheikh Abdulaziz al-Sheikh is a prominent Saudi Arabian religious leader and scholar. He is the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, the highest religious authority in the country, and the Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars, the highest religious body in the country. He is also the President of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs and the President of the Standing Committee for Scientific Research and Issuing Fatwas.

Early Life

Sheikh Abdulaziz al-Sheikh was born in the city of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia in 1945. He is the son of Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Muhammad bin Ibrahim al-Sheikh, who was the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia from 1953 to 1999. Sheikh Abdulaziz al-Sheikh received his early education in Riyadh and then went on to study Islamic jurisprudence and Islamic studies at the Islamic University of Madinah. He graduated in 1975 and then went on to teach Islamic jurisprudence and Islamic studies at the university.

Career

Sheikh Abdulaziz al-Sheikh was appointed as the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia in 1999, succeeding his father. As the Grand Mufti, he is responsible for issuing fatwas, or religious rulings, on matters of Islamic law. He is also the Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars, the highest religious body in the country, and the President of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs and the President of the Standing Committee for Scientific Research and Issuing Fatwas.

In addition to his religious duties, Sheikh Abdulaziz al-Sheikh is also a prominent political figure in Saudi Arabia. He is a member of the Consultative Assembly of Saudi Arabia, the country’s legislative body, and has served as a member of the Shura Council, the upper house of the Saudi Arabian parliament. He is also a member of the Council of Ministers, the highest executive body in the country.
