Sara Donchey

Short Biography

Sara Donchey was born on April 8, 1989, in Los Angeles, California. She went to Diamond Bar High School and proceeded to pursue a degree in Print and Online Journalism from San Francisco State University. During her time there, Sara contributed to the student-run news source, Golden Gate Xpress. Sara worked as both the Online Managing Editor and the Editorial Cartoonist for the paper, writing news and sports reports.

While working for the school paper, she became Twitter pals with Bay Area TV journalist Joe Vazquez, exchanging news tips and story thoughts. Vazquez welcomed Donchey to visit his station's newsroom. It was the first occasion that she had ever stepped into a TV newsroom. He showed her around the workplace. After a short time, the news stations appointed her as a production assistant, one of the lowest positions in the industry. She would wake up at 2 am, get to the station at 3 am, and go on assignments with the columnists. At this point in her career, she chose journalism as a career path and decided it was what she wanted to be for the rest of her life.

Career as an American Journalist

After she finished up with her school, Sara worked as a production assistant for KPIX 5, the CBS-operated station in San Francisco. Sara relocated to South Texas to fill in as a multimedia journalist for KRIS-TV and KZTV, a station in Corpus Christi. Sara worked for the nightly newscasts and anchored the station's end of the weeknight shows.

In 2015, she moved to Houston to fill in as an anchor and journalist for KPRC-TV, where she anchored the stations 11 am and 4 pm broadcasts. During her time at KPRC, Sara ventured to every part of the nation to cover two Super Bowls, the 2016 Dallas Police shooting and the San Bernardino assault. She likewise anchored the other breaking news coverage during Hurricane Harvey, headed out to Mexico to cover the NFL, and went with MLB star Carlos Correa to where he grew up in Puerto Rico.

Personal & Family Life

She cherishes her better half and often shares pictures of their family life on social media. She shows off her wedding ring whenever she can. Their first child was born in September 2018, adding to their lovely family. Sara lives in the Los Angeles region with her husband, child, and Doberman Pinschers named Hiwa.
