Ronnie Milsap is an American country music singer and pianist. He is one of the most successful and influential country music artists of all time, having sold over 35 million albums worldwide. He has had 40 number one hits on the Billboard country music charts, and has won six Grammy Awards, eight Academy of Country Music Awards, and nine Country Music Association Awards.

Early Life

Ronnie Milsap was born on January 16, 1943 in Robbinsville, North Carolina. He was born blind due to a congenital disorder, and was raised by his grandparents. He began playing the piano at the age of three, and by the time he was five, he was playing in church. He attended the Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he studied music and learned to read and write Braille.

Career

In the early 1960s, Milsap moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a career in music. He began working as a session musician, playing piano on recordings by artists such as Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, and Charley Pride. In 1971, he signed with RCA Records and released his debut album, Ronnie Milsap. The album was a success, and spawned several hit singles, including “Pure Love” and “It Was Almost Like a Song.”

Milsap’s career took off in the mid-1970s, when he began to focus on country music. He released a string of successful albums, including Night Things (1975), It Was Almost Like a Song (1977), and Images (1979). He had a string of number one hits on the Billboard country music charts, including “Smoky Mountain Rain” (1980), “Stranger in My House” (1983), and “Lost in the Fifties Tonight” (1985).

In the late 1980s, Milsap began to focus on more contemporary music, and released several albums in the pop and R&B genres. He had several hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including “Any Day Now” (1988) and “She Loves My Car” (1989).
