Ron Wyden is an American politician who has served as a United States Senator from Oregon since 1996. He is a member of the Democratic Party and is currently the ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee. Wyden was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1949 and grew up in Palo Alto, California. He attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971.

Early Political Career

Wyden began his political career in 1974 when he was elected to the Oregon House of Representatives. He served in the Oregon House for four years before being elected to the Oregon State Senate in 1978. He served in the Oregon State Senate for eight years, during which time he was the Senate Majority Leader from 1981 to 1985. In 1996, Wyden was elected to the United States Senate, where he has served ever since.

Legislative Accomplishments

During his time in the Senate, Wyden has been a strong advocate for progressive causes. He has been a leader in the fight for health care reform, introducing the Healthy Americans Act in 2007.
