Johnson
Early Life
Robert Wood Johnson was born on September 4, 1845 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He was the son of James Wood Johnson and Sarah Ann Tuttle Johnson. His father was a successful businessman and his mother was a homemaker. He had two brothers, James and George, and two sisters, Mary and Sarah.
Johnson attended Rutgers College, graduating in 1864. After college, he worked as a clerk in his father's business. He then went on to become a partner in the firm, which was renamed Johnson & Johnson in 1887.
Career
In 1887, Johnson and his two brothers, James and George, founded the company Johnson & Johnson. The company initially focused on producing surgical dressings and antiseptic products. Johnson was the driving force behind the company's success, and he was responsible for introducing the first commercial first aid kits.
