Early Life
Richard Jencks was born in New York City on April 15, 1945. He was the son of a successful businessman and a homemaker. He grew up in a middle-class family and attended public schools in the city. He was an excellent student and was accepted into Harvard University at the age of 16.
Education
At Harvard, Richard majored in economics and graduated with honors in 1965. He then went on to pursue a master's degree in business administration from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. After completing his MBA, Richard worked as a financial analyst for a few years before deciding to pursue a career in law. He attended Yale Law School and graduated in 1972.
Legal Career
After graduating from Yale, Richard began his legal career as a corporate lawyer at a prestigious law firm in New York City. He quickly rose through the ranks and became a partner at the firm in 1978. He specialized in corporate law and was highly sought after by many of the top companies in the city. He was known for his ability to negotiate complex deals and his expertise in corporate law.
In the late 1980s, Richard decided to move away from corporate law and focus on public interest law. He joined the Legal Aid Society of New York and began representing low-income clients in civil cases. He was passionate about helping those who could not afford legal representation and was a strong advocate for the rights of the poor.
Later Years
In the late 1990s, Richard decided to retire from the Legal Aid Society and focus on teaching. He joined the faculty of Columbia Law School and taught courses in corporate law and public interest law. He was a popular professor and was known for his engaging lectures and his commitment to his students.
In his later years, Richard continued to be an active member of the legal community. He served on the boards of several legal organizations and was a frequent speaker at conferences and seminars. He was also a mentor to many young lawyers and was a strong advocate for legal reform.
Richard Jencks passed away in 2018 at the age of 73. He was remembered as a brilliant lawyer and a passionate advocate for justice. He was an inspiration to many and his legacy will live on for generations to come.
