.P.J. Abdul Kalam
Early Life
Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, popularly known as A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, was born on 15th October 1931 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. He was the youngest of five siblings born to Jainulabdeen, a boat owner, and Ashiamma, a housewife. His father was a devout Muslim and his mother was a Hindu.
Kalam had a humble upbringing and his family was not well off. He was an average student in school and college, but he was very hardworking and determined. He was also very passionate about science and technology.
Education
Kalam graduated from the Madras Institute of Technology in 1960 with a degree in aeronautical engineering. He then joined the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) as a scientist. He worked on the development of the SLV-III, India's first satellite launch vehicle.
He also worked on the development of the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program (IGMDP). This program was responsible for the development of several missiles, including the Prithvi, Agni, and Akash missiles.
Career
Kalam was appointed as the 11th President of India in 2002. During his tenure, he was known for his simplicity and humility. He was also known for his focus on science and technology. He was instrumental in the development of the Indian space program and the nuclear program.
He was also a strong advocate of education and was the founder of the "Ignite" program, which aimed to encourage students to pursue science and technology.
Legacy
Kalam was a great leader and an inspiration to many. He was a visionary and a great scientist. He was also a great teacher and mentor. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, in 1997.
Kalam passed away on 27th July 2015 due to a cardiac arrest. He was 84 years old. He is remembered as the "People's President" and his legacy lives on in the form of the many initiatives he started. He will always be remembered as a great leader and an inspiration to many.
