Lina Medina (born September 27, 1933) is a Peruvian woman who is known for being the youngest confirmed mother in medical history, giving birth at the age of five years, seven months and 21 days.
Early Life
Lina Medina was born in Ticrapo, Peru, on September 27, 1933. She was the daughter of Tiburelo Medina, a silversmith, and Victoria Losea. At the age of five, she was brought to a hospital by her parents because of increasing abdominal size. Doctors initially thought she had a tumor, but an X-ray revealed that she was seven months pregnant.
Medical History
The doctors were shocked to discover that Lina was pregnant, and she was immediately admitted to the hospital. After a series of tests, it was determined that she was in her seventh month of pregnancy. On May 14, 1939, Lina gave birth to a healthy baby boy by caesarean section. The baby weighed 2.7 kg (6 lbs) and was named Gerardo.
The identity of the father was never determined, and the case remains a mystery to this day. Lina's parents claimed that she had been raped by a family friend, but this was never proven.
Later Life
After giving birth, Lina returned to her hometown and continued to live with her parents. She was able to finish her schooling and eventually married a man named Raul Jurado in the late 1950s. The couple had two children together, a daughter named Anastasia and a son named Raul.
Lina and her family still live in Ticrapo, Peru, where she works as a teacher. She is now in her 80s and is still living a relatively normal life.
