Lesley Stahl is an American television journalist who has been a correspondent for CBS News since 1991. She is best known for her work on the news magazine 60 Minutes, where she has been a correspondent since 1991. Stahl has won numerous awards for her reporting, including three Emmys, two Peabody Awards, and the Edward R. Murrow Award.
Early Life
Lesley Stahl was born on December 16, 1941 in Lynn, Massachusetts. She attended Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts, where she graduated with a degree in English in 1963. After college, Stahl worked as a reporter for the Boston bureau of the Associated Press. She then moved to New York City, where she worked as a reporter for the New York Times.
Career
In 1972, Stahl joined CBS News as a reporter. She quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a White House correspondent in 1977. During her time at the White House, Stahl covered the presidencies of Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, and George H.W. Bush. In 1991, she joined the news magazine 60 Minutes, where she has been a correspondent ever since.
Stahl has won numerous awards for her reporting, including three Emmys, two Peabody Awards, and the Edward R. Murrow Award. She has also been honored with the Paul White Award from the Radio and Television News Directors Association, the Sol Taishoff Award from the National Press Foundation, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Women’s Media Foundation.
In addition to her work at CBS News, Stahl has written two books. The first, Reporting Live, was published in 1999 and is a memoir of her career in journalism. Her second book, Becoming Grandma: The Joys and Science of the New Grandparenting, was published in 2015 and is a look at the joys and science of grandparenting.
Legacy
Lesley Stahl is one of the most respected and accomplished journalists of her generation. She has won numerous awards for her reporting and has been a fixture on 60 Minutes for nearly three decades. Stahl has also written two books and is a role model for aspiring journalists. Her legacy will continue to inspire generations of journalists to come.
