Julie Beth Hagerty was born on June 15, 1955 in Cincinnati, OH. Her father's name is Jerald William Hagerty, Jr. and her mom's name is Harriet Yuellig. Julie's father is a musician and her mom is a model and singer. She had a sibling named Michael Hagerty and he additionally became an actor like her. Julie went to Indian Hill High School for her primary education.

Julie Hagerty signed a contract with Ford Models to model for them at the age of 15. She spent summers modeling in New York City when she moved there in 1972. She worked at her sibling's theater group and studied with actor William Hickey. Julie went through a year in Paris and came back to Cincinnati and started working in her sibling's theater group. She used to sell tickets, fabricate sets, and clean the floor. She eventually got her first acting role in 'Mutal Benefit Life' at her sibling's theater, The Production Company.

The actress launched her movie career starting with the film 'All That Jazz' however her little part in the film was removed from the completed film. She got her biggest break when she appeared in the comedy film 'Airplane!'. The film turned into the third highest-netting comedy in film industry history during that time.

After becoming famous, she started to rack up credits in movies like 'Lost In America', 'A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy', Just Friends', 'She's the Man', and 'Princesses'. She appeared as Jan in the film 'Instant Family' in 2018. She played Shirley in 'Grace and Frankie' in 2018 and Jackie Georgina in 'Black Monday' in 2019. She played the role of Mrs. Claus in 'Noelle' in 2019.

In January 2020, it was announced that the film, Marriage Story was added to the Oscar nominations list for the Best Picture category. Julie has a supporting role in the film as Sandra.
