Grant Wahl is an American sports journalist and author. He is best known for his work as a senior writer for Sports Illustrated, where he has covered soccer since 1996. He is also the author of The Beckham Experiment, a book about David Beckham's time with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Early Life
Grant Wahl was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1975. He grew up in the St. Louis suburb of Kirkwood, where he attended Kirkwood High School. He was an avid soccer fan from a young age, and played the sport throughout his childhood.
Wahl attended Duke University, where he majored in political science and history. He was also a member of the Duke men's soccer team, and was named an All-American in 1996. After graduating from Duke, Wahl moved to New York City to pursue a career in journalism.
Career
In 1996, Wahl joined Sports Illustrated as a staff writer. He quickly established himself as one of the magazine's top soccer writers, and has since covered the sport for the magazine for more than two decades. He has written extensively about the sport, including profiles of some of the world's top players and teams.
In 2008, Wahl published The Beckham Experiment, a book about David Beckham's time with the Los Angeles Galaxy. The book was a New York Times bestseller, and was praised by critics for its insight into the world of professional soccer.
