Early Life
Glenn Raymond Tipton was born on October 25, 1947 in Blackheath, England. He was the youngest of three children and grew up in a musical family. His father was a jazz musician and his mother was a classical pianist. From an early age, Tipton was exposed to a variety of musical styles and instruments. He began playing the guitar at the age of 11 and quickly developed a passion for the instrument.
Career with Judas Priest
In 1974, Tipton joined Judas Priest and quickly became an integral part of the band. He wrote and co-wrote many of the band's most popular songs, including "Breaking the Law," "Living After Midnight," and "You've Got Another Thing Comin'." His guitar playing was a major factor in the band's success, and he was often praised for his technical skill and melodic solos.
Tipton remained with Judas Priest until his retirement in 2018 due to health issues. During his time with the band, he released 17 studio albums and toured extensively. He was also a part of the band's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
Solo Career
In addition to his work with Judas Priest, Tipton has released several solo albums. His first solo album, Baptizm of Fire, was released in 1997 and featured guest appearances from members of Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath. He followed this up with two more solo albums, Edge of the World (2000) and Baptizm of Fire II (2003).
