Background and Age

Garth Brooks was born on February 7, 1962 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Brooks was born into a musical family, his mom had a short recording career with Capitol Records during the 1950s. He at first showed little enthusiasm for music, nonetheless, liking to focus on sports. A sports scholarship carried Brooks to Oklahoma State University, and it was there that he met guitarist Ty England, with whom he started performing at a dance club. Creeks graduated with a degree in advertising in 1984 and moved to Nashville the next year, hoping to break into the music business.

In 1987, he moved to Nashville. With assistance from music supervisor Bob Doyle, Brooks eventually signed to Capitol Records and released his self-titled debut collection in 1989.

In 1986 Garth married Sandy Mahl, his school sweetheart, and after a year she went with him back to Nashville, where he was signed to Capitol Records in 1988.
