Frederick C. Hicks was an American politician and lawyer who served as a United States Senator from New York from 1911 to 1913. He was born on April 15, 1856 in New York City to parents William and Mary Hicks. He attended public schools in New York City and graduated from Columbia College in 1877.
Early Career
After graduating from college, Hicks began his career as a lawyer in New York City. He was admitted to the bar in 1879 and began practicing law. He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1883 and 1884. He was also a member of the New York State Senate from 1885 to 1888. In 1888, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives, where he served until 1895.
Political Career
In 1911, Hicks was elected to the United States Senate as a Republican. He served in the Senate until 1913, when he was defeated for re-election. During his time in the Senate, he was a member of the Committee on Education and Labor and the Committee on Indian Affairs. He was also a member of the Senate Committee on the Philippines.
Later Life
After leaving the Senate, Hicks returned to his law practice in New York City. He was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1916 and 1920. He also served as a member of the New York State Constitutional Convention in 1915. He died on April 15, 1923 in New York City.
Legacy
Frederick C. Hicks was a prominent figure in New York politics during the early 20th century. He was a strong advocate for education and labor reform, and was a leader in the fight for Philippine independence. He was also a strong supporter of the Republican Party and was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1916 and 1920.
