Edgar Winter is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known for his hit songs "Frankenstein" and "Free Ride". He has released numerous albums throughout his career, including his debut album Entrance in 1970.
Early Life
Edgar Holland Winter was born on December 28, 1946 in Beaumont, Texas. He is the younger brother of the late musician Johnny Winter. He began playing the saxophone at the age of five and the keyboards at the age of eight. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied classical music and composition.
Career
In 1970, Edgar released his debut album Entrance, which featured the hit single "Frankenstein". The song became a top 10 hit in the US and was later featured in the movie National Lampoon's Animal House. He followed up with his second album, They Only Come Out at Night, which featured the hit single "Free Ride". The song became a top 20 hit in the US and was later featured in the movie The Blues Brothers.
In the 1980s, Edgar released several albums, including Mission Earth, Standing on Rock, and Not a Kid Anymore. He also released a live album, Live in Japan, which featured a cover of the song "Tobacco Road". He also released a compilation album, The Best of Edgar Winter, which featured his greatest hits.
