Ed Joyce is a professional cricketer from Ireland who has represented his country in both Test and One Day International matches. He is a left-handed batsman and occasional right-arm off-break bowler. He has also played for Middlesex, Sussex and Yorkshire in the English County Championship.
Early Life
Ed Joyce was born on 2 September 1979 in Dublin, Ireland. He was educated at St. Mary's College, Dublin and later at University College Dublin. He began playing cricket at a young age and was selected for the Irish Under-19 team in 1997. He made his first-class debut for Ireland in 1998 against Scotland.
International Career
Joyce made his One Day International debut for Ireland in 2001 against Scotland. He was part of the Irish team that won the ICC Intercontinental Cup in 2004. He was also part of the Irish team that qualified for the 2007 Cricket World Cup.
In 2006, Joyce was selected to play for England in the One Day International series against Sri Lanka. He made his Test debut for England against Sri Lanka in 2007. He was part of the England team that won the 2009 Ashes series against Australia.
In 2011, Joyce returned to Ireland and was selected to play for them in the 2011 Cricket World Cup. He was part of the Irish team that qualified for the 2015 Cricket World Cup. He was also part of the Irish team that won the ICC Intercontinental Cup in 2015.
County Career
Joyce has played for Middlesex, Sussex and Yorkshire in the English County Championship. He made his debut for Middlesex in 2004 and was part of the team that won the County Championship in 2005. He moved to Sussex in 2008 and was part of the team that won the County Championship in 2009. He moved to Yorkshire in 2011 and was part of the team that won the County Championship in 2012.
Retirement
In 2019, Joyce announced his retirement from professional cricket.
