Daphne Rubin-Vega was born on November 18, 1969 in Panama City, Panama. Rubin-Vega commenced her career by approaching David Bowie producer Arif Mardin as a starry-eyed youngster and begging him to let her record a melody on the soundtrack to the 1986 George Lucas film Labyrinth.

Daphne Rubin-Vega is a two time Tony and Drama Desk candidate and beneficiary of the Theater World, Obie (1996) and Blockbuster (1998) grants. She has been a member of the Labyrinth Theater Company since 1992. Rubin-Vega is most popular for the roles she started, including Mimi ("Rent") and Conchita ("Anna in the Tropics"), both Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway shows for which she was selected for the Tony grant. She has since begun innumerable roles, including Dolores in Aaron Mark's urban praise to Sweeney Todd, "Empanada Loca", (Labyrinth Theater Company) which has since become the grizzly podcast, "The Horror of Dolores Roach" on Gimlet media.
Daphne Rubin-Vega is known for her singing as much as her acting. She was a member of the young lady group Pajama Party whose single "Yo No Se" was number one on the Billboard dance charts. They made two collections on Atlantic Records before Daphne started writing and recording solo singles for the dance label Maxi. In 1997, Rubin-Vega cut her first collection of unique music, "Keepsakes" on the old Mercury label and in 2006, she produced, performed, and principally wrote, "Recovery Songs" (Sh-K-Boom). Daphne has added to different musical projects, including her famous rendition of "Feliz Navidad" for Broadway Cares and her club crush front of "Rocketman.
In 2005, she got an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Kean University.
Motion picture fans will finally get a film form of the Broadway hit, In The Heights, including Hamilton's Anthony Ramos in June 2019. Directed by Jon M. Chu from Crazy Rich Asians and from a screenplay by Quiara Alegría Hudes who wrote the book for In the Heights on Broadway, the film adaptation dropped its first full-length trailer in December 2019. The trailer promises many musical numbers and mind blowing production. Set in New York's Washington Heights neighborhood, In the Heights depicts to the record of a worker played by Miranda on Broadway and Ramos in the film. In the film, Rubin-Vega plays the role of Daniela.
