Christopher Alvin Stapleton was born on April 15, 1978, in Lexington, Kentucky to Carol J. Stapleton, a health department worker, and Herbert Joseph Stapleton, Jr., a coal miner. Alongside his older brother and younger sister, he grew up outside of Lexington where his folks were big fans of country music from the area around them.

Well known and clean-cut in his adolescent years, Stapleton played a few team sports at Johnson Central High School and graduated as class valedictorian in 1996. He proceeded to study designing at Vanderbilt University in Nashville however before long submerged himself in the nearby music scene, and dropped out following one year.

Chris Stapleton met Morgane Hayes in 2003 when they were both working as songwriters. Morgane would visit her companion at Sea Gayle Music, planning to get him in passing. The couple got married in 2007 and have been in deep love from that point onward. They have four children, including a lot of twin young men born in April 2018.
