Carlos Bilardo is a former Argentine football player and manager. He is best known for leading the Argentine national team to victory in the 1986 FIFA World Cup. He is also remembered for his successful managerial career, which included stints with the Argentine national team, Boca Juniors, Estudiantes de La Plata, and the Paraguayan national team.

Playing Career

Carlos Bilardo began his playing career in the early 1960s with Estudiantes de La Plata. He quickly established himself as a key player in the team, helping them to win the Copa Libertadores in 1968 and 1969. He also won the Intercontinental Cup in 1968 and 1969, and the Copa Interamericana in 1969.

In 1971, Bilardo moved to Boca Juniors, where he won the Primera División in 1972 and 1973. He also won the Copa Libertadores in 1977 and the Intercontinental Cup in 1977. He retired from playing in 1979.

Managerial Career

After retiring from playing, Bilardo began his managerial career with Estudiantes de La Plata in 1980. He led the team to the Primera División title in 1981 and 1982. He also won the Copa Libertadores in 1982 and the Intercontinental Cup in 1983.

In 1983, Bilardo was appointed manager of the Argentine national team. He led the team to victory in the 1986 FIFA World Cup, defeating West Germany in the final. He also led the team to the final of the 1990 FIFA World Cup, where they were defeated by West Germany.

In 1991, Bilardo returned to club management with Boca Juniors. He led the team to the Primera División title in 1992 and 1993. He also won the Copa Libertadores in 1992 and the Intercontinental Cup in 1993.

In 1998, Bilardo was appointed manager of the Paraguayan national team. He led the team to the quarter-finals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where they were defeated by Germany. He also led the team to the final of the 2004 Copa América, where they were defeated by Brazil.

In 2006, Bilardo returned to club management with Estudiantes de La Plata. He led the team to the Primera División title in 2006 and 2010. He also won the Copa Libertadores in 2009 and the Intercontinental Cup in 2009.

In 2011, Bilardo retired from management. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers in the history of Argentine football.
