Algernon Blackwood (1869-1951) was an English writer and journalist who is best known for his supernatural fiction. He was born in Shooter's Hill, London, and was the youngest of four children. His father was a successful businessman and his mother was a homemaker.

Early Life

Blackwood was educated at the City of London School and then went on to study at St. John's College, Oxford. He was an avid reader and was particularly interested in the works of William Blake, Thomas Carlyle, and William Wordsworth.
