Early Life

Alan Colmes was born on September 24, 1950, in New York City. He was raised in a Jewish family in Lynbrook, Long Island. He attended Hofstra University, where he earned a degree in radio and television production. After graduating, he worked as a radio disc jockey and news anchor in various cities across the United States.

Career

In 1988, Colmes began his career in television as a political commentator on the Fox News Channel. He was the co-host of the popular show Hannity & Colmes, which ran from 1996 to 2009. During his time on the show, he was known for his liberal views and his willingness to debate conservative commentator Sean Hannity.

In addition to his work on Fox News, Colmes was a frequent guest on other news programs, including The O'Reilly Factor, The Today Show, and Larry King Live. He also hosted his own radio show, The Alan Colmes Show, which aired on Fox News Radio from 2004 to 2017.

Colmes was also an author, having written several books, including Red, White & Liberal: How Left Is Right and Right Is Wrong (2003), Thank the Liberals for Saving America (2006), and The Joys of Fox News: How to Spin, Bias, and Lie with a Straight Face (2009).

Later Life

In 2017, Colmes retired from broadcasting and moved to Florida with his wife, Jocelyn Crowley. He passed away on February 23, 2017, at the age of 66.

Legacy

Colmes was remembered for his wit, intelligence, and willingness to engage in civil discourse with those who disagreed with him. He was a passionate advocate for liberal causes and was known for his ability to make his opponents laugh. His legacy lives on in the many people he inspired to stand up for their beliefs.
