Narvel was first married to Elisa Gayle Ritter on March 30, 1973. The couple was married for 15 years but later separated in 1988. They have 3 children from the marriage named Chassidy Celeste Blackstock, Brandon Blackstock, and Shawna Rene Blackstock.

Blackstock started dating country music star, Reba McEntire a year after his divorce from Ritter. Narvel eventually got married to McEntire in 1989. McEntire and Blackstock met while working together in McEntire's band. Blackstock was the steel guitar player in the band and furthermore assumed the role of McEntire's manager. The couple got married in the lovely setting of Lake Tahoe. It was a private service that was attended by the couple's dear loved ones.

McEntire and Blackstock then created a music management organization called Starstruck Entertainment in 1988 to deal with McEntire's career.
