Early Life
Wolf Blitzer was born in Augsburg, Germany in 1948 to Jewish parents. His family moved to the United States when he was a young child, settling in Buffalo, New York. Blitzer attended Kenmore West Senior High School, where he was an active member of the student council and the debate team. He went on to study at the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1970.
Career
After graduating from college, Blitzer began his career in journalism as a correspondent for the Reuters news agency in Tel Aviv, Israel. He then moved to Washington D.C. to work as a Washington correspondent for the Jerusalem Post. In 1973, he joined the Washington bureau of the Associated Press, where he covered the Watergate scandal and the resignation of President Richard Nixon.
In 1982, Blitzer joined CNN as a military affairs correspondent. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the network's White House correspondent in 1990. In 1998, he was named the host of the network's The Situation Room, a position he still holds today.
Throughout his career, Blitzer has interviewed numerous world leaders, including U.S. presidents, prime ministers, and other high-ranking officials. He has also reported from the scene of major news events, including the Gulf War, the September 11th attacks, and the Iraq War.
