Mickey Rooney was an American actor, singer, and entertainer who was one of the most popular stars of the 20th century. He was born Joseph Yule Jr. on September 23, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of vaudeville performers Joseph Yule and Nell Carter.
Early Life
Rooney began performing at the age of 17 months, when he joined his parents on stage. He made his film debut in 1926 in the silent film Not to be Trusted. He went on to appear in a number of silent films, including The Devil's Circus (1926) and The Kid From Spain (1932). He also appeared in a number of musicals, including Babes in Arms (1939) and Strike Up the Band (1940).
Career
Rooney's career took off in the late 1930s and 1940s, when he starred in a number of popular films, including Boys Town (1938), National Velvet (1944), and The Human Comedy (1943). He also starred in a number of popular television series, including The Mickey Rooney Show (1954-1955) and The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet (1952-1966).
In addition to his acting career, Rooney was also a successful singer. He released a number of albums, including Let's Put Out the Lights (1941) and Mickey Rooney Sings (1947).
