Kate Middleton was born as Catherine Elizabeth Middleton on January 9, 1982, in Reading, Berkshire, England, to airline workers, Michael and Carole Middleton. She has a more youthful sister, Philippa ("Pippa"), and younger sibling, James.

Kate originated from a determinedly working-class family of coal diggers and builders on her mom's side. Her maternal grandma, Dorothy Goldsmith, pushed her children to aim high with their goals and, thus, Kate's mom turned into an airline hostess.
