Early Life
Joyce Meyer was born on June 4, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the youngest of five children born to her parents, Leonard and Edna Meyer. Growing up, Joyce was exposed to a lot of abuse and neglect from her father, which caused her to develop a deep-seated fear of abandonment. She was also exposed to a lot of religious teachings, which she credits for helping her to develop a strong faith in God.
Education and Career
Joyce attended O’Fallon Technical High School in St. Louis, where she graduated in 1961. After high school, she attended a business school and worked as a secretary for a few years. In 1976, she began working as a Bible teacher at a local church. She quickly gained a following and began to travel around the country, speaking at churches and conferences.
In 1985, Joyce founded her own ministry, Life in the Word. Through this ministry, she has published numerous books, audio recordings, and television programs. She has also been featured on numerous television and radio programs, including The 700 Club, The Hour of Power, and Focus on the Family.
