Early Life
James T. Johnston was born on April 15, 1887 in the small town of St. Louis, Missouri. He was the youngest of three children born to John and Mary Johnston. His father was a successful businessman and his mother was a homemaker. Growing up, James was an avid reader and enjoyed playing sports. He attended St. Louis High School and graduated in 1905.
Military Career
After graduating high school, James decided to join the United States Army. He enlisted in 1906 and was assigned to the 8th Infantry Regiment. He quickly rose through the ranks and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1910. During World War I, he served in France and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his bravery and leadership. After the war, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and served in various posts throughout the United States.
Post-Military Career
In 1921, James retired from the military and returned to St. Louis. He decided to pursue a career in business and opened a small grocery store. He quickly became successful and expanded his business to include a restaurant and a hotel. He also invested in real estate and became a successful investor. In addition to his business ventures, James was an active member of the community and served on the board of several local charities.
Legacy
James T. Johnston was a successful businessman and a respected member of the St. Louis community. He was known for his generosity and philanthropy. He was also a devoted husband and father and was survived by his wife and three children. His legacy lives on through his businesses and investments, as well as the many charities he supported.
