John Murray Rose

Early Life

John Murray Rose was born on April 15, 1883 in New York City. He was the son of a prominent banker and was raised in a wealthy family. He attended the prestigious Phillips Exeter Academy and then went on to Harvard University, where he graduated with a degree in economics in 1905.

Career

After graduating from Harvard, Rose began working as a banker in New York City. He quickly rose through the ranks and eventually became a partner at the prestigious J.P. Morgan & Co. in 1910. During his time at the firm, he was involved in a number of high-profile deals, including the financing of the Panama Canal.

In 1915, Rose left J.P. Morgan & Co. to pursue a career in politics. He was elected to the New York State Assembly in 1916 and served for two terms. During his time in the Assembly, he was a vocal advocate for progressive causes, such as the regulation of the banking industry and the protection of workers’ rights.

In 1920, Rose was elected to the United States House of Representatives. He served in Congress for four terms, during which time he was a strong supporter of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal policies. He was also a vocal opponent of the Ku Klux Klan and a proponent of civil rights legislation.

Later Life

In 1932, Rose retired from Congress and returned to New York City. He continued to be involved in politics, serving as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1936 and 1940. He also served as a member of the New York City Board of Education from 1937 to 1941.

Rose died on April 15, 1945, at the age of 62. He was remembered as a dedicated public servant who fought for progressive causes and championed civil rights. His legacy lives on in the many public works projects he helped to fund during his time in Congress.
