David "Big Papi" Ortiz was known as a Dominican-American Major League Baseball designated hitter and first baseman. He is most famous for winning a World Series with the Boston Red Sox.

David Americo Ortiz Arias was born on November 18, 1975 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to guardians Enrique and Angela Rosa. He had four younger siblings and was known as the individual to carry peace to the family. Ortiz's father played baseball in Dominican teams and appeared to pass his baseball enthusiasm to his child.

Career as a Baseball Designated Hitter

In 2002, Ortiz hit .272 for the Minnesota Twins, with 20 homers and 75 RBIs. The Twins progressed to the American League Championship Series that year, yet lost to the Anaheim Angels. Ortiz endured wrist injuries in both 1998 and 2001 and knee issues in mid-2002.

In 2005, the Boston Red Sox's owner, John Henry, named Ortiz "The Best Clutch Hitter in the History of the Boston Red Sox". Ortiz career saw 47 grand slams, 43 of them as an assigned hitter, twenty of his homers either tied or gave Boston the lead, and over the period 2003-2005, he hit .326, with 22 homers and 73 RBIs in just 221 at bats in the late innings of close games. He additionally led all of the American League in RBIs with 148, and his 47 homers were second in the AL to the Yankees' Alex Rodriguez. He also finished second to Rodriguez in MVP ballots.

Wife & Children

David got married to his better half, Tiffany Brick whom he met in Wisconsin while he played in the Seattle Minor League. They got married in a private function on November 16, 2002, and have been cheerfully married since. Their time together has been honored with three exquisite children, two young ladies, Jessica and Alex and a boy, D'Angelo.

The couple had their most testing time when in April 2013, they chose an official separation. Ortiz commented that occasionally lovely things work for some time and after that, it stops to work. It appeared that the affection and care they shared as a couple was strong enough to bring them back together in June 2014.

Ortiz is recouping from medical procedure after he was shot June 9, 2019, at a night club in his local Santo Domingo, as indicated by police. He remained in serious condition after being treated for bleeding in his liver and having part of his digestive organs and nerve bladder removed.
